It has now been ten months since America was attacked by Muslim terrorists who hijacked three passenger jets, killing more than 6,000 innocent people. In reflecting on the tragedy of September 11, 2001, we must ask ourselves—what have we learned as a nation? Have we truly taken to heart the warning those events represented?
Nothing happens to any nation apart from God’s sovereign permission. While God is not the author of evil, He sometimes allows tragedy to awaken hearts and call people to repentance. In His mercy, even on that terrible day, He enabled brave men aboard Flight 93 to fight back—preventing an even greater catastrophe at the U.S. Capitol. Imagine the devastation had Congress been in session when that plane was destined to strike.
Yet, despite the wake-up call, complacency has settled over much of the nation. We often hear, “It’s not a matter of if, but when,” regarding another terrorist act on American soil. Still, few seem spiritually vigilant or serious about the condition of our country. America may be powerful, but it is not invincible.
A Nation in Moral Decline
Our courts continue to push God out of schools and government, even attempting to remove “one nation under God” from the Pledge of Allegiance. Meanwhile, Hollywood floods the airwaves and theaters with moral decay masquerading as entertainment.
Churches, too, face compromise. In some denominations, leaders have approved lifestyles and behaviors Scripture calls sin, redefining truth to fit the times. Society celebrates what God condemns, labeling anyone who speaks biblical truth as hateful or intolerant. Violence, child abductions, and the daily tragedy of abortion reveal how far our culture has fallen. Evil is no longer hiding—it is celebrated.
God’s Call to His People
So, what are we to do?
God calls His Church to stand up and warn a rebellious world of coming judgment. But He also calls believers to examine themselves. It’s time to turn away from the “little sins” we justify, thinking God’s grace gives us license to continue in them. Grace is not cheap—it was purchased by the blood of Jesus Christ.
Where is the fear of the Lord today? If you do not fear His judgment, you may not truly know Him—or perhaps you’ve grown numb in sin. Yet even now, there is freedom in Jesus Christ for all who repent and call on His name.
A Call to Readiness
Time is short. Jesus is coming soon to take His Church before the world faces divine judgment. While we long for His return, we also plead that our loved ones will come to know Him before it’s too late.
Lord Jesus, come soon—but not before our families, friends, and neighbors come to repentance.
You are the Son of God, Prince of Peace, El Shaddai, Yeshua, Faithful and True.
