The Bible is filled with prophecies about the end times, offering believers both warning and hope. While the Rapture itself is imminent and signless, the Scriptures reveal many signs that foreshadow the Tribulation and the Second Coming. For those who believe in a Pre-Tribulation Rapture, these signs point to the closeness of Christ’s return for His Church.

As Paul wrote:

“Therefore comfort one another with these words.”
(1 Thessalonians 4:18, NKJV)

Jesus’ Words in the Olivet Discourse

In Matthew 24, Jesus outlined clear indicators of the end times:

“And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of sorrows.”
(Matthew 24:6-8, NKJV)

  • Hal Lindsey, in The Late Great Planet Earth, emphasized:

“Our generation has seen these words fulfilled more dramatically than any before us—wars, natural disasters, and global upheaval.”

The Prophets on Israel’s Restoration

The prophets foretold Israel’s rebirth, a pivotal sign of the end times.

“Thus says the Lord God: ‘Surely I will take the children of Israel from among the nations… and bring them into their own land.’”
(Ezekiel 37:21, NKJV)

The fulfillment of this prophecy in 1948 is considered one of the most remarkable events in modern history.

  • John Walvoord wrote:

“The restoration of Israel is the keystone of end-time prophecy. Without Israel, the stage for the Tribulation could not be set.”

Warnings of Apostasy and Deception

The New Testament warns that false teaching and spiritual decline will characterize the last days.

“Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons.”
(1 Timothy 4:1, NKJV)

  • Chuck Missler observed:

“We live in an era of unprecedented deception. The only way to avoid being swept away is to cling tightly to God’s Word.”

Paul also described cultural decline in 2 Timothy 3:1-2, highlighting selfishness, pride, and rejection of God’s truth—all realities today.

The Prophets on Global Judgment

Old Testament prophets foresaw a time of worldwide distress leading up to the Day of the Lord.

  • Daniel 12:1 (NKJV):

“And there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation, even to that time.”

  • Joel 2:30-31 (NKJV):

“And I will show wonders in the heavens and in the earth: Blood and fire and pillars of smoke. The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the coming of the great and awesome day of the Lord.”

These warnings align with the catastrophic events described in Revelation 6–18 during the Tribulation.

The Gospel to the Nations

Jesus also foretold a global spread of the Gospel:

“And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.”
(Matthew 24:14, NKJV)

  • Greg Laurie notes:

“Technology has allowed us to fulfill this prophecy in ways previous generations never could. The Gospel is going out to the whole world.”

How These Signs Connect to the Rapture

Although the Rapture has no signs, the signs of the Tribulation and Second Coming tell us the Rapture is even closer. If the world is preparing for the events of Revelation, how much nearer must be Christ’s call for His Bride?

  • Chuck Smith summarized it best:

“We are not looking for signs of the Antichrist—we are looking for the coming of Jesus Christ.”

Conclusion

The Bible is clear: the prophets and Jesus Himself foretold unmistakable signs of the end times—wars, Israel’s restoration, apostasy, global distress, and worldwide evangelism. These signs confirm that the stage is set for the fulfillment of prophecy.

For believers, this is not a reason for fear but for hope:

“Looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ.”
(Titus 2:13, NKJV)

The signs foretold by Jesus and the prophets are all around us. The time is short. The Rapture could happen at any moment.
