Reflections After September 11, 2001
This is not the “letter from the editor” I originally intended to write.
But after the tragic events that unfolded on September 11, 2001, I feel a deep urgency and leading from the Lord to share what’s on my heart.
That day—9/11—was one of the most horrific moments in the history of the United States. The terrorist attacks in New York City and Washington D.C. shocked the entire world. At the time, estimates placed the death toll from the World Trade Center tragedy at more than 6,000 lives, not including those who perished aboard the hijacked planes or in the Pentagon attack.
The Threat of Nuclear Terrorism
One of my greatest ongoing concerns involves what are known as “suitcase nukes”—compact, portable nuclear bombs reportedly developed during the Soviet era. According to a 60 Minutes interview with General Lebed, roughly 100 of 130 such devices remain unaccounted for. Many fear these weapons may have fallen into the hands of terrorists such as Osama bin Laden or Saddam Hussein.
Could one already have been smuggled into the United States?
If so, the most likely targets would include New York City, Washington D.C., and Los Angeles.
It feels surreal to even write these words, yet this is the world we now live in—forever changed by the events of Nine Eleven.
Hope in the Midst of Fear
My greatest hope is that multitudes around the world will cry out to the living God before it’s too late. My prayer is that websites and ministries like this will reach those who are sincerely searching for truth.
Jesus Christ is coming soon to take His Church in an event known as The Rapture. The Church is not a building—it is composed of all believers who trust in Him and call Him Lord, those who are “counted worthy to escape.” Perhaps by the time you read this, that moment will have already come.
After the Rapture, the world will be thrown into chaos. Many who are left behind will become believers, but it will be too late to avoid what Scripture calls the Tribulation, the final seven years before Christ returns to defeat His enemies and reign on Earth for a thousand years. This is clearly described in the Book of Revelation, which unveils the glory and victory of our Lord and Savior.
A Call to Readiness
If you are reading this before the Rapture, remember that the Lord can come at any moment. Live every day for God. Look up—your Redeemer draws near! Turn away from sin and call upon the Lord to free you from anything that binds you.
When the time comes, do not take “the mark” placed on the hand or forehead, even if it becomes the only way to buy or sell. Trust God instead. If He feeds the sparrow, He will surely provide for you. Scripture says, “The number of the mark is the number of man, three times—666.”
Trusting God Amid Uncertainty
These are uncertain days, and the world’s clock seems to be ticking toward midnight. Whether tomorrow brings another terrorist attack, a brief war, or a global conflict involving nuclear weapons, one truth remains steadfast—God is our refuge.
Psalm 91
“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High
Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress;
My God, in Him I will trust.”3 Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the [a]fowler
And from the perilous pestilence.
4 He shall cover you with His feathers,
And under His wings you shall take refuge;
His truth shall be your shield and [b]buckler.
5 You shall not be afraid of the terror by night,
Nor of the arrow that flies by day,
6 Nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness,
Nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday.7 A thousand may fall at your side,
And ten thousand at your right hand;
But it shall not come near you.
8 Only with your eyes shall you look,
And see the reward of the wicked.9 Because you have made the Lord, who is my refuge,
Even the Most High, your dwelling place,
10 No evil shall befall you,
Nor shall any plague come near your dwelling;
11 For He shall give His angels charge over you,
To keep you in all your ways.
12 In their hands they shall [c]bear you up,
Lest you [d]dash your foot against a stone.
13 You shall tread upon the lion and the cobra,
The young lion and the serpent you shall trample underfoot.14 “Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him;
I will [e]set him on high, because he has known My name.
15 He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble;
I will deliver him and honor him.
16 With [f]long life I will satisfy him,
And show him My salvation.”
