Background

John MacArthur (1939–2025) was a pastor, author, and Bible teacher who faithfully served as the senior pastor of Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, California, from 1969 until his passing on July 14, 2025. Renowned for his verse-by-verse expository preaching, he became one of the most influential evangelical leaders of his generation.

MacArthur also served as president of The Master’s Seminary and The Master’s University, training thousands of pastors and ministry leaders worldwide. His teaching ministry, Grace to You, continues to reach millions through radio, television, books, and digital media. With more than 150 published works, including The MacArthur Study Bible and The Gospel According to Jesus, he left a lasting legacy emphasizing the authority of Scripture, the sufficiency of Christ, and the call to holy living.
